SPAY & NEUTER

It is very important to get all dogs and cats spayed or neutered. Overpopulation is a major problem in the central valley and every year thousands of dogs and cats are euthanized because we allow them to breed faster than homes can be found for them. If we did not take such drastic measures to control their population we would be overrun with strays, which would pose significant health concerns. There is another way, however. If we do the responsible thing and spay and neuter our cats and dogs, we can reverse our overpopulation problem without euthanasia. With low-cost and free options at The SPCA, and prices as low as $20 for cats, and $40 for dogs for Medi-Cal recipients at the HOPE Animal Foundation, there’s no reason not to do your part.

Another very important part we can all play in halting overpopulation is adopting all of your dogs and cats from a shelter (Animal Compassion Team (ACT), Animal Rescue of Fresno (ARF), SPCA, Bully Rescue). Not only will you be giving a pet a second chance, but your actions will also discourage “back yard breeding” by making it harder for them to find homes for their puppies or kittens. Plus all shelter animals will already be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and de-wormed, making them the more responsible choice. Even if somebody “accidentally” has a litter of puppies or kittens, for every one that they find a home for, there is now an un-vaccinated, un-spayed/neutered animal waiting to start the reproduction process all over again, that is taking the place of what could have been a shelter animal.

Here at Whitie’s PETS we discourage “back yard breeding” and only have dogs and cats from our local SPCA up for adoption. They are all micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, and fully vaccinated and de-wormed at time of adoption. We are unfortunately only able to accept cash for animal adoptions fees though, because the transaction is done completely through the SPCA, we just provide the space, care, and facilitate the adoption process. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays we often have ACT present with a large selection of dogs and cats up for adoption. These animals all live in the foster homes of people who truly care about their animals, so they are all healthy and well socialized. Dogs adopted through ACT also come with FREE dog training classes.
