NEWTS & SALAMANDERS

Newts and Salamanders are not Lizards like some people might think, but rather they belong to a group of animals called Amphibians. Amphibians were amongst to first vertebrates to venture out of the oceans. They have very thin and moist skin that looses moisture easily so they must live in or near water. They externally fertilize their young like fish, and have similar soft-bodied, water-dependent eggs. They are cold blooded like Fish an Reptiles, so they require much less food than warm blooded animals like Mammals and Birds. Newts and Salamanders can even regenerate body parts, including parts of their head!
